چکیده
In this editorial, we first set the context for the subject matter of this special issue on passive optical network (PON) supported networking. This context includes a discussion of optical networking in all segments of a global communication network and the emphasis of the importance of PONs in the access network as well as their role supporting other communication network technologies. We follow this broader context with an introduction to the articles appearing in this special issue. Lastly, we conclude this editorial with a broad outlook to the future of PONs in communication networks. & 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Novel Physical Security in Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) Using Broadband Light Source
In this paper we proposed the physical layer security scheme in WDM-PON. Simulated result of eavesdropping attempt in WDM-PON is presented. This physical security enhancement is accomplished through inclusion of Broadband Light Source in OLT to create a TDM signal in which each data frame is transmitted at unique wavelength. Simulation tools verify that implementation of enhance security techni...

In the present paper, we have planned the deployment of passive, active and splitting optical devices employed in passive optical network (PON) standards such as giga-passive optical networks (GPON), broadband passive optical network (BPON) and Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) has been modeled and investigated over wide range of the affecting parameters. The utilization of the transport ...
متن کاملPON versus AON: Which is the best solution to offload core network by peer-to-peer traffic localization
Video streaming and video-on-demand are gaining popularity nowadays which dictates a need of bandwidth upgrade for Internet users. Many next generation optical access network architectures have been proposed to meet high capacity requirement on a peruser basis. However, the capacity upgrade in access networks, may lead to a huge traffic growth in the aggregation/core network. One way to avoid t...
متن کاملGrouping by Cycle Length (GCL) for long-range FiWi networks
The integration of wireless access networks with optical access networks in the so-called fiber-wireless (FiWi) networks has recently emerged as a promising strategy for providing flexible network services at relatively high transmission rates. FiWi network research to date has mainly focused on optical access networks with the normal reach (around 20 km) of passive optical networks (PONs). We ...
متن کاملA Novel TDM-OFDM method for enhanced transmission in passive Optical Networks
Presently, digital signal process strategies are wide studied and varied DSP primarily based schemes are appointive for next-generation passive optical network (PON). A hybrid technique is projected which mixes time-division-multiplexing (TDM) design with advanced DSP strategies to attain high spectrum-efficiency colorless transmission. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with fre...
